Micro Soccer – Fall 2019
Micro – Fall 2019
The five age-groups are:
- 2016 (U4)
- 2015 (U5)
- 2014 (U6)
- 2013 (U7)
- 2012 (U8)
The teams will be split up into two leagues (U4-U5 & U6-U7-U8) to aid and improve the development of our players. With the new structure the games will become more competitive and it will allow the coaches to focus even more on the developing the player with specific age-appropriate drills.
The age-groups are based on US Youth Soccer guidelines and as a club we believe following these we will be able to offer a beneficial development program for the players. The concept behind micro-soccer is to allow more touches on the ball by having small teams playing on small fields. The practice are led by professional GPS coaches alongside volunteer Micro Team Coaches. The sessions are designed to expose kids to the basic fundamentals of the game of soccer while promoting a “fun-first” atmosphere based on GPS curriculum.
Micro Soccer uses small-sided games with fewer players, smaller fields, and shorter game times as a way of keeping kids engaged. As they get older, more emphasis is placed on learning and additional players are added to the field to allow interaction and promote teamwork.
This approach has many advantages:
- Modified soccer will develop players faster with more touches.
- Opportunity to improve decision making
- More scoring and faster pace keeps kids engaged
- Offers parent/coaches an opportunity to grow in progressions also
All players spend two days a week training with professional GPS coaches alongside the team coach. Our training program is designed to continue the development of the soccer player, whatever his or her skill level may be. The player will be challenged to improve and excel in his or her skills through a progressive and efficient method based on National GPS curriculum.
All players must have adequate soccer equipment at the start of each season. If your player is new to the club, you will need to purchase a Size 3 soccer ball, soccer cleats, shin guards and shorts. Team jerseys will be provided by the club. Registration fees include a match day jersey.
All practices and games are held at the James Island Youth Soccer Club’s main facility, at the corner of Fort Johnson Road and Lighthouse Blvd. Full address is 871 Fort Johnson Road, Charleston, SC, 29412.
