Development Pathway

Overview

James Island Youth Soccer Club is committed to player development. We believe that each player should have the opportunity to reach the highest levels of competition. To fulfill this mission James Island Youth Soccer Club has committed to the United States Youth Soccer (USYS) pathway and compete in both the South Carolina Youth Soccer Association (SCYSA) at ages U13 – U19 and the Carolina Premier League (CPL) at ages U8 – U12.

At James Island Youth Soccer Club we have three phases of development, each phase development with guidance from the US Soccer Curriculum. Each phase is listed below:

  • Developmental 
  • Competitive – Junior Academy 
  • Competitive – Academy Select

The developmental phases is designed to be for early learning, geared towards soccer players beginning their soccer journeys. Sessions feature teaching of basic skills and building a love for the game.

The competitive phase at the Junior Academy level is designed to be the bridge between recreational soccer and academy soccer. Players are in pools for the calendar year and participate in weekly training/ games. There is greater attention to training and improving the technical part of the individuals game. 

The competitive phase at the Academy Select level is designed to offer players competitive soccer. From U13+ players are select for teams and compete in the United States Youth Soccer (USYS) pathway. Players are exposed to technical and tactical training to prepare them for competitive match days.
